Flyin miata vmaxx classic coilovers! Install will be this weekend. Sad to be back from California but my new suspension setup and tires will be making me move out there even sooner! Hopefully the install is painless and rusty bolt free.

I should also be rebuilding my NA’s suspension in the Spring. I haven’t decided between this setup or the Tokico Stage 1 package. I know I’ll definitely be upgrading to the stiffer rubber package FM offers.

Yeah, I will see how this install goes. I know anything will be better than my current setup. Even ricelands probably lol. But we shall see if I end up wishing for something stiffer. I do a ton of street driving though so maybe this will be a good balance for me.

The car has 132k miles on it now and to my knowledge everything suspension related is original. I can tell its time for things to be replaced. Now that I read into everything more I see no reason to get the Tokico package over the coilovers.

Well the Koni package Flyin Miata sells is supposed to be really good too. I wanted the ease of install that coilovers give, the adjustable height, and lower price. So that is why i went Vmaxx. But I have heard nothing but good things about either package.

That’s a beefy setup right there. Going for any lowering, or are you looking to keep the stock ride height as well? When the HEMIWagon was initially put on coilovers, I ran into two problems. I had to do any and all bushings possible at the same time, and alignment has been a royal PITA because a lot of shops don’t like doing custom alignments.

I would just say that if your ball joints haven’t been done yet, you’re going to want to do them when you install this, and get a really robust aftermarket ball joint. The clunking gets way worse if ignored.

That and when I lowered the car, I tore up a CV boot within the first two weeks. Not sure whether it was because of the new angle or if I hit something on the highway, but it didn’t take long.

Just pick up a couple cans of PB blaster and you should be fine. Also, if you do end up looking at doing bushings at the same time, I cannot describe the world of hurt you can avoid by buying new bushing sleeves at the same time.

I got a set of Flyin Miata VMaxx and couldn’t be happier. Compared to the stock suspension, its quite an upgrade. Less brake dive and acceleration squat. Whatever it’s called, its feel great.

Put those on along with their front and rear roll bars. Love them

Bushings and ball joints are not being messed with during this install. That would be the case if they had to be removed anyways (as the factory maintenance manual suggests) but there is a much easier method that I plan to follow. The “Long Bolt” method is what I will be using which avoids breaking the ball joints to remove the shocks. But yeah those will inevitably have to be done when I am feeling up for it.

I plan to leave these set at pretty much the highest setting which should be only slightly lower than stock height. They are definitely adjustable to the point that my car would be scraping every bump in the road but I am just looking for functional lowering. And I want a more aggressive alignment anyways since the stock one is not recommended by Flyin Miata. Hopefully, the shop I have used in the past will not have an issue with that. And if all else fails with my install, I can bring it to them to do it!

Yeah I wanted to order them now but it didn't make sense budget-wise. I will definitely be getting them by the time auto-x season rolls around though! And since I am already going to be out of stock class anyways, might as well get both the front and rear.
